my story

My name is Christian Black and this is my wife Hannah and my little girl Margo. They are my greatest motivation to work hard and to do great work. I love my family, wood working, playing music, surfing and spending time with friends.

My career began straight out of high school when I started a fashion brand with my sister called HALF UNITED. Our focus was to feed kids in need using a portion of our profits. It was an amazing time and it took us all over the world, but years in an office, behind a computer, began to wear on me. Eventually I left that business to work carpentry with my dad, a trade I had been around my entire life. While learning to frame and renovate homes in every way imaginable, I found that I really loved the more detailed, design-oriented aspects on the job. So towards the end of 2020 I decided to venture off to start my own design focused carpentry business: Kind Carpentry.

what’s with the name?

Simply put, I find joy in being kind. Working with my dad, I always admired his ability to connect with his customers. I loved the way he could make them laugh and create meaningful connections and long lasting working relationships.

I’ve also witnessed the negative side of the trade. The loud music, the sloppy work and messy spaces.

My goal is to treat people and their spaces with kindness and respect while delivering the highest quality product possible.
